Borno State remains a major frontline in Nigeria’s counterinsurgency, where sustained military operations place heavy physical and psychological demands on deployed troops.
To strengthen welfare and morale, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, Governor of Borno, on Monday commissioned renovated military facilities in Monguno.
The facilities include an Officers’ Lounge and a Cafeteria for personnel of Sector 3, Operation Hadin Kai.
The projects were renovated under the supervision of Suleiman Saidu Tilawan, sector commander of Sector 3, Operation Hadin Kai.
The renovated facilities are meant to provide a dignified space for rest, interaction, and recovery for soldiers operating in active conflict areas.
They are also designed to support psychological readiness and improve operational effectiveness among troops.
While inaugurating the projects, Zulum described troop welfare as a non-negotiable pillar of modern warfare.
He said success in military operations depends not only on firepower and intelligence but also on the physical and mental well-being of personnel.
“When officers and men are well catered for, motivated and respected, their commitment to duty becomes stronger,” Zulum said.
He added that the facilities, though modest, play a vital role in sustaining morale, discipline, and unity among soldiers risking their lives daily.
The governor commended the leadership of Tilawan, noting that such initiatives strengthen camaraderie and esprit de corps within the ranks.
Zulum praised troops of Sector 3 for their sustained efforts in securing Monguno and surrounding communities.
He said their vigilance has reduced insurgent threats, restored public confidence, and supported the gradual return of socio-economic activities.
The governor assured the Nigerian Army and other security agencies of his administration’s continued support.
He pledged sustained collaboration in logistics, infrastructure, humanitarian access, and post-conflict recovery.
“Security is the foundation upon which development is built, and we will continue to support those who defend our state and nation,” Zulum said.
The event also featured the investiture of Tilawan following his recent promotion to the rank of major general.
Zulum congratulated him on the promotion, describing it as recognition of professionalism, sacrifice, and consistent service.
