The Senegalese Football Federation has dismissed the decision by CAF’s Appeal Board to strip Senegal of the AFCON 2025 title and award it to Morocco.

The Federation disclosed this in a statement made public on Wednesday.

Senegal had earlier walked off the pitch during their AFCON 2025 final clash against Morocco in Rabat following a penalty decision in favour of the hosts.

The Teranga Lions halted the game for more than 10 minutes in protest before eventually returning to the pitch and going on to win the match in extra time to secure the title.

Dissatisfied Morocco approached CAF’s disciplinary committee but failed to get a favourable outcome and proceeded to the Appeal Board, chaired by Nigerian judge Roli Daibo Harriman.

The nine-member board later awarded the title, stating that Senegal violated tournament rules with its protest.

Senegal condemned the decision, describing it “as unjust and unprecedented, adding that it “discredits African football”.

The West African country’s Football Federation also disclosed plans to challenge the ruling at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne, Switzerland.

“To defend its rights and the interests of Senegalese football, the Federation will initiate an appeal as soon as possible before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne.

“The FSF reaffirms its unwavering commitment to the values of integrity and sporting justice and will keep the public informed of developments in this matter.”

Senegal has now lost what would have been its second AFCON title following the ruling, while Morocco secured a first continental triumph in 50 years through the landmark decision.
