A deadly clash between bandits and operatives of the Community Watch Corps (CWC) has resulted in the death of at least 15 people in Katsina State.

The incident, which occurred late Monday night, took place in Falale community in Jibia Local Council.

It was learnt that the bandits had attempted to invade the community with the aim of carrying out criminal activities.

However, members of the CWC were reportedly alerted and quickly mobilised to the scene where the confrontation took place.

The CWC is a security outfit established by the state government to support conventional security agencies in addressing banditry and related crimes in the state.

According to media reports, 15 persons lost their lives during the clash, with both the bandits and CWC operatives recording casualties.

It was also learnt that several injured victims were receiving treatment in hospital.

The deceased were said to have been buried yesterday morning in line with Islamic rites.

The state, which continues to face security challenges driven by bandit and terrorist activities, has recorded a series of attacks in recent times.

Last week, bandits attacked two communities in Musawa and Dandume local councils, killing 14 persons and injuring several others.

Earlier in February, bandits also invaded Doma community in Faskari Local Council, killing over 20 persons and injuring many others.

However, security operatives have continued efforts to curb the menace, with a recent operation resulting in the killing of 45 bandits in Danmusa Local Council about three weeks ago.

Confirming the incident, the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr Nasir Mu’azu, stated that the clash occurred on March 17 in Falale and Kadobe villages.

He added that normalcy had been restored and urged residents to remain calm, assuring them of the government’s commitment to peace and stability.

“The Katsina State Government has confirmed that a violent clash occurred in Falale and Kadobe villages in Jibia Local Council on March 17, 2026. The incident resulted in loss of 15 lives, but security forces have since restored order and stabilised the situation.

“The vigilante from the affected villages engaged repentant bandits, resulting in three casualties. The incident triggered a violent reprisal that claimed additional lives in the communities,” he stated.
