The Peoples Democratic Party on Wednesday began the screening of aspirants seeking elective positions ahead of the 2027 general elections, with Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan taking part in the exercise for the Kogi Central Senatorial District.

The screening exercise, which took place in Lokoja, Kogi State, had aspirants vying for different offices under the PDP platform participating ahead of the party primaries.

The move signals the early preparations for the 2027 elections as political parties continue internal arrangements to position candidates for strategic contests across the country.

Details of the exercise were disclosed by Natasha’s aide, Mike Idoko, in a statement released in Abuja on Wednesday.

Speaking shortly after completing the screening, Akpoti-Uduaghan thanked party leaders, supporters and residents of Kogi Central for their continued trust and backing of her leadership.

“Today, I travelled to Lokoja to participate in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) screening exercise for aspirants seeking elective offices in the 2027 general elections,” she said.

“Taking no chances, I arrived fully prepared with all required credentials and supporting documents. I am pleased to have successfully completed the screening exercise as part of the process ahead of the party primaries for the 2027 Kogi Central Senatorial Election under the platform of the PDP.”

The senator described the exercise as an important democratic process and reaffirmed her dedication to effective representation and service delivery.

“This represents a renewed commitment to quality representation, purposeful leadership, and continued service to the people,” she stated.

Akpoti-Uduaghan also renewed her pledge to improve the welfare of residents through legislation, infrastructure projects, youth empowerment and better social services if elected for a second term.

According to the statement, her proposed second-term plans would prioritise youth and women empowerment initiatives, expansion of educational opportunities through scholarships and academic support programmes, rehabilitation of rural roads, improved healthcare services and increased assistance for small-scale businesses across the five local government areas in Kogi Central.

She also promised to strengthen efforts toward attracting more federal projects to the district, improve power supply, enhance community security collaboration and support policies aimed at boosting job creation and economic growth.

Akpoti-Uduaghan maintained that her mission continued to centre on service, unity and inclusive leadership.

“For love, people, service and 2027,” she declared.

The statement further noted that supporters across Kogi Central remained optimistic about her participation in the screening process, describing it as a significant step toward the forthcoming PDP primaries and the 2027 general elections.

The senator’s expected re-election bid is also said to be gaining momentum amid increasing support from party stakeholders and grassroots mobilisers ahead of the 2027 elections.
