Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, has called for increased cooperation with the Canadian Government in education, science and technology, and renewable energy to fast-track development in the state.

Fintiri made the request on October 3, 2026, during a meeting with the Canadian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Pasquale Salvaggio, in Abuja. Discussions centred on shared interests and possible areas of collaboration between Adamawa State and Canada.

A key part of the meeting was the state government’s proposal to sponsor 120 students from Adamawa to Canada for master’s degree programmes in different science-related fields.

The governor also discussed possible Canadian assistance for the Adamawa College of Technology, Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Gulak, particularly in expanding the institution’s capacity to advance innovation, technical education and entrepreneurial development.

Regarding renewable energy, Fintiri identified solar power as another promising area of cooperation, pointing out that the state’s abundant sunshine creates favourable conditions for investment in clean and sustainable energy.

He reiterated his administration’s dedication to education, science and technology, describing the sectors as essential to driving innovation, generating employment and achieving sustainable development.

The governor was accompanied during the visit by the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development.
