Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum said he does not know who will succeed him after his tenure ends in May 2027.
He said his administration remains focused on improving security and delivering development to the people.
Zulum made the remarks on Sunday during an APC stakeholders’ meeting at the Multi-purpose Hall of the Government House in Maiduguri.
He addressed party leaders, elected officials, and members, stressing the need for a fair and transparent process in electing party officials.
“The integrity of the process is important for the party’s unity and future success,” Zulum said.
He urged stakeholders to allow new leaders to emerge through a democratic process to strengthen the party at the grassroots level.
The governor dismissed speculation about his influence on the party’s future ticket.
“I have no candidate for any position, and I do not know who will succeed me,” he said.
“I have entrusted the choice of leaders to Almighty Allah, according to the democratic will of party members and the people of Borno State.”
Zulum announced the formation of two committees to increase APC e-registration and reconcile party members.
A 10-man committee will be headed by former Nigerian Ambassador to China, Baba Ahmed Jidda, and include members from the state’s three senatorial districts.
The meeting was attended by acting governor Umar Usman Kadafur and former governor Maina Ma’aji Lawan.
Other attendees included APC Deputy National Chairman Ali Bukar Dalori and State APC Chairman Bello Ayuba.
Former deputy governors Ali Abubakar Jatau, Adamu Shettim Dibal, and Usman Mamman Durkwa were also present.
Senate Chief Whip Mohammed Tahir Monguno, Senators Kaka Shehu Lawan, and 10 members of the House of Representatives attended, including Dr Midala Balami who recently resigned from the PDP.
Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly Abdulkarim Lawan, Deputy Speaker Engr Abdullahi Askira, and 25 other assembly members were present.
Former legislators Baba Kaka Bashir Garbai and Dr Bulama Mali Gubio, along with senior party officials, also attended.
