Prof. Isa Ali Pantami has once again emerged as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the 2027 governorship election in Gombe State.
Pantami had previously secured the party’s ticket, but a Federal High Court last Thursday nullified his emergence and directed the party to conduct a fresh primary election.
The rerun primary election was conducted on Tuesday across the 114 wards in the 11 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state.
Announcing the outcome, the Chairman of the PDP Governorship Primary Election Committee, Hon. Johnbull Tiemlong Shekarau, said a total of 2,555 accredited party members took part in the exercise.
He said Pantami secured 2,054 votes to defeat the other two aspirants.
Shekarau also announced that former member of the House of Representatives, Khamisu Ahmed Mailantarki, polled 389 votes to finish as the first runner-up, while Hon. Usman Aliyu Garry, who received 112 votes, emerged as the second runner-up.
“I, Hon. Johnbull Tiemlong Shekarau, hereby declare Isa Ali Pantami as the winner of this primary election and return him as the duly elected governorship candidate of the PDP for the 2027 general elections,” he declared.
He commended the leadership of the PDP at the national and state levels for their support, which he said helped ensure the successful conduct of the primary election.
He also commended members of the election committee for their cooperation and dedication, alongside security agencies for maintaining a peaceful and orderly process.
Shekarau further appreciated Senator Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo for “providing a leadership and support during the exercise.”
He thanked party members and residents of Gombe State for maintaining peace throughout the exercise.
In his acceptance speech, Pantami praised members of the party for conducting themselves peacefully during the election.
He urged Mailantarki and Garry to work with him and support the success of all the party’s candidates in the general elections.
He said if elected, he would provide purposeful leadership, “and rescue the state from years of mis-governance of the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration.”
