The National Universities Commission has approved 30 new programmes for the Federal University Dutse, including Artificial Intelligence, Law, Data Science, Medical Laboratory Science and Community Health.
The development was disclosed in a statement signed and issued to journalists on Tuesday in Dutse, the Jigawa State capital, by the Acting Director, Public Affairs, Federal University Dutse, Abdullahi Yahaya.
Yahaya said the approval was conveyed in a letter dated September 11, 2026, with reference number NUC/AP/F33/VOL.II/15, signed by the Director, Academic Planning, NUC, Abubakar M. Girei.
He said the correspondence was addressed to the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ahmad Gumel.
According to him, the commission authorised the Faculty of Law to begin academic activities and approved full-time study for the 30 programmes from the 2026/2027 academic session.
He said some of the approved undergraduate courses include “B.Sc. Artificial Intelligence, B.Sc. Data Science, B.Sc. Information Systems and L.L.B. Common and Islamic Law.”
He added that other approved programmes include “B. Sc. Ed. Physics, Biology, Mathematics, B.Ed. Educational Management, Early Childhood and Adult Education.”
Yahaya said the health-related courses approved by the commission include “B. Sc. Community Health, Medical Laboratory Science, Human Nutrition and Dietetics, Physiotherapy, Radiography and Optometry.”
He further listed other programmes as “B.Sc. Parasitology and Entomology, Environmental Standards, Water Sanitation and Hygiene, Applied Geology and Remote Sensing and B.A. Ed. Arabic and English.”
He stated that the institution also received approval for “Science Laboratory Technology with options in Biology and Biochemistry Technology.”
Yahaya said the approved postgraduate programmes include “PGD, M.Sc. and PhD in Forestry and Wildlife, Accounting, Treasury and Finance, Banking and Finance and Information Technology.”
He further disclosed that “Masters in Banking and Finance and Masters in Accounting and Finance” were also approved.
Speaking on the development, Gumel said the approval represents a significant advancement in his plan to introduce additional academic programmes at the university.
Gumel said, “The new programmes are specifically designed to address the evolving educational needs of society as the courses focus on critical areas such as technology, science education and health-related disciplines.”
He said, “This strategic academic growth aims to equip students with relevant skills and knowledge that align with current industry demands and societal challenges, ensuring that FUD graduates are well-prepared for the workforce.”
