The University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka, has officially prohibited skitmaking, content creation, and all forms of video recording within its campus and hostels without prior authorization.
The decision, contained in a statement signed by the institution’s Head of Communication, Mrs. Adejoke Alaga-Ibraheem, comes amid growing concern over the increasing use of university spaces for unauthorized productions, including comedy skits, vox pops, and film shoots.
“The attention of the University Management has been drawn to the rising use of the University premises, including hostels and other facilities, for shooting of films, videos, skits, and similar cinematographic activities without proper authorisation,” parts of the statement read.
According to the university, the move is intended to protect its image, uphold decorum within the academic environment, and prevent the misrepresentation of its premises in public or online content.
UNILAG stressed that anyone either student, staff, or outsider, must obtain official approval from the Communication Unit before engaging in any recording or production activity on campus.
While recognizing the role of creativity and media participation, the university insisted that such efforts must align with established rules to maintain order and security.
The management also urged members of the university community and the general public to respect the directive “in the interest of order, safety, and collective responsibility.”
