Suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists have demanded a $300,000 ransom for the release of a former vice chairman of Biu Local Government Area and another abducted man in Borno State.

The demand was revealed in a video circulated online showing the two captives appealing to the government and influential individuals to intervene and secure their release.

One of the abductees identified himself as Hassan Biu Miringa, a former vice chairman of Biu Local Government Area.

Miringa said he and the second victim were abducted on December 17, 2025, while traveling from Miringa to Maiduguri at about 2:30 p.m.

In the video, the victims said the terrorists are demanding $150,000 for each of them as a condition for their release.

“We were abducted on our way from Miringa to Maiduguri around 2:30 p.m., Alhamdulillah, we are alive,” one of the victims said.

He said the abductors made it clear that they would not be released until the ransom is paid in full.

The victims appealed directly to Umar Usman Kadafur, deputy governor of Borno State, Mukhtar Betara Aliyu, Sule Ali Rimi, Yakubu Gambo Kimba, and Musa Dogo Biu to intervene on their behalf.

“We are pleading with them to come to our rescue because we are their sons,” the victim said.

The abductees said they want to regain their freedom and be reunited with their families.

As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official response from the Borno State Government or security agencies.

The incident has raised renewed concerns over continued abductions along major roads in southern Borno despite ongoing security operations.
