The Lagos State Waterways Authority has restated its prohibition of night-time movement on inland waterways, warning residents and boat operators ahead of a concert by Fuji musician Alhaji Sule Alao Malaika, scheduled for Sunday, at Ilashe Beach.
In a statement released on Sunday, LASWA General Manager, Damilola Emmanuel, advised fun-seekers to plan their movement properly and adhere strictly to safety guidelines.
“LASWA wishes to urgently remind the general public, especially fun lovers and fans of the renowned Fuji musician, Alhaji Sule Alao Malaika, planning to visit Ilashe Beach for his concert today, Sunday, January 11, 2026, that night-time travel on Lagos inland waterways remains strictly prohibited,” she said.
Emmanuel stressed that the restriction covers all watercraft, whether commercial or private, noting that daytime operations remain the safest means of navigating the state’s waterways.
“Night voyages are still banned due to significant risks, including poor visibility and navigational dangers.
“These measures are aimed at safeguarding lives and property on our waterways,” she added.
The agency also urged residents to arrive early and avoid rushing to the venue, explaining that delays could heighten the temptation for unsafe night travel.
“Boat operators must adhere strictly to authorised operating hours, observe all safety protocols and ensure that all passengers wear life jackets at all times,” the statement noted.
To ensure compliance, LASWA said it is working with the National Inland Waterways Authority and other safety and security agencies.
Emmanuel disclosed that patrols across Lagos waterways would be stepped up in the coming days.
“Offenders will face legal consequences,” she warned, emphasising the authority’s zero-tolerance stance on violations of the night travel ban.
Reaffirming LASWA’s commitment to safe water transportation, Emmanuel said the agency remains focused on delivering regulated and efficient services.
“Safety on our waterways is everyone’s responsibility,” she concluded, reminding the public that compliance with rules protects both lives and property.
