The Jigawa State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 30-year-old man, Hussaini Abubakar, who allegedly murdered his 75-year-old biological mother, Dahara Mu’azu, in Dantanoma quarters, Gumel Local Government Area of the state.
Shi’isu Lawan Adam, Police Public Relations Officer to the command disclosed this on Tuesday in Jigawa.
The tragic incident occurred on Sunday, June 29, 2025, around 8:00 p.m.
According to the police, operatives at the Gumel Divisional Headquarters responded to a distress report of a violent domestic assault involving a mother and her son.
“Upon arrival at the scene, it was discovered that the suspect had brutally attacked his mother by striking her head repeatedly with mud blocks,” the command said in a statement.
The elderly woman was found lying in a pool of blood with serious head injuries.
She was quickly rushed to the Gumel General Hospital, where she was placed under intensive care.
Unfortunately, the command confirmed that she was pronounced dead by a medical doctor on duty the following day, June 30.
The suspect, Hussaini Abubakar, was arrested at the scene and has since remained in custody while police continue with their investigation.
“He is currently cooperating with investigators and will be arraigned in court upon conclusion of our discreet investigation,” the statement added.
Condemning the incident, the Commissioner of Police, CP AT Abdullahi, described the act as “inhuman, barbaric, and utterly reprehensible.”
He has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Criminal Investigation Department (CID), to take over the case and ensure justice is served swiftly.
The police also used the opportunity to urge the public to always report early signs of mental health issues or domestic violence to the nearest police station or traditional leaders to prevent such devastating events.
The Jigawa State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to law enforcement, public safety, and justice for victims of crimes across the state.
