The Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, has commissioned police hospitals in Offa and Omu-Aran as part of efforts to improve healthcare services for personnel and members of host communities.
The commissioner also performed the foundation-laying ceremony for the expansion and upgrade of the Omu-Aran Police Hospital into a multispecialist facility during separate events held in the two communities on Friday.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, disclosed this in a statement made available to media.
Speaking during the ceremonies, Adekimi said the facilities were designed to provide quality healthcare to police officers and members of the public, adding that preserving lives remained a key priority during emergencies.
“The hospitals were established to serve both police personnel and members of the public, with qualified medical professionals providing care. Saving lives remains the immediate priority in medical emergencies,” Adekimi said.
He thanked the traditional rulers and residents of both communities for their support for the projects.
The Olofa of Offa, Oba Mufutau Gbadamosi, Esuwoye II, described the hospital as an important addition to public welfare and called on the police authorities to ensure sustained quality service.
“The establishment of this hospital is a significant contribution to the wellbeing of our people, and we urge the authorities to sustain the standards of service,” the monarch said.
The Chairman of Offa Local Government Area, Suleiman Olatunji Omituntun, commended the initiative and urged residents to make use of the facility.
“We appreciate this initiative and encourage our people to take advantage of the facility and support its continued development,” Omituntun said.
In Omu-Aran, the Olomu of Omu-Aran, Oba Abdulraheem Oladele Adeoti Agboluaje, provided additional land to facilitate the expansion of the hospital.
The monarch said the facility would help meet the healthcare demands of the area’s growing population and promised continued support from the community.
Adekimi and the traditional ruler jointly performed the foundation-laying ceremony for the proposed multispecialist upgrade.
The CP expressed appreciation to the people of Omu-Aran, saying their support demonstrated the value of sustained collaboration between the police and communities.
Speaking about the scope of the project, the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Medical Services in Kwara State, Dr. Abdulquadri Balogun, said plans were being made to establish police hospitals in all Area Commands across the state.
“The proposed multispecialist expansion is aimed at strengthening access to quality and affordable healthcare, with plans also underway to establish police hospitals across all Area Commands in the state,” Balogun said.
He praised the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, the Force Medical Director, AIG Dr. Nkechi Eze, and the Kwara CP for their roles in advancing healthcare development within the police.
The command said the initiative was part of its broader efforts to improve personnel welfare and strengthen relations with host communities.
