The Kwara State Police Command has apprehended a suspect, Hamza Woru, over the illegal possession of a human skull.

This followed a failed attempt to sell the skull, which prompted operatives to trace the grave in Kaiama Local Government Area.

The arrest came after a complaint was lodged at the Kaiama Division when intelligence reports pointed to an effort to traffic human remains.

The suspect was said to have reached out to a complainant by phone, seeking a meeting at a designated location.

He later showed up with another suspect identified as Abubakar, where they allegedly offered the skull for sale.

The complainant, however, pretended to cooperate and quickly informed the police, a step that triggered a swift response and led to the arrest of Hamza Woru, while his accomplice escaped and remains at large.

The suspect was apprehended with the human skull, which has been secured as evidence.

The police further disclosed that the suspects allegedly travelled to Shirigweria, Kaiama, where they exhumed the corpse of a female relative of the suspect, buried in January 2026, and removed her skull.

The Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, confirmed the incident and stated that efforts were ongoing to track down the fleeing accomplice.

He assured that the suspect will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigation, in line with relevant provisions of the law.

The Command also urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies for swift action.
