The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has detained two candidates and a parent over the alleged falsification of 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results using Artificial Intelligence and other digital tools.
The board made this known while confirming the release of results for 632,788 candidates who participated in the examination on Thursday, April 16.
JAMB spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, stated that the suspects were caught for altering official SMS result notifications to generate or modify scores with the aim of misleading others, including parents and guardians.
“Currently, two candidates and one parent are in custody for engaging in result falsification using AI and other electronic means,” the statement read.
Benjamin warned that such actions amount to a serious criminal offence and stressed that the board would ensure all those responsible are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
He further advised candidates not to interfere with result messages issued through JAMB’s official SMS platforms, 55019 and 66019.
Candidates who wrote the examination on Thursday can verify their scores by sending UTMERESULT via SMS to 55019 or 66019, using the phone number linked to their registration. Printing of official result slips is not yet available and will be activated later.
The 2026 UTME commenced on April 16 and is scheduled to end on April 22 across centres nationwide, with results being released in phases as the exercise progresses.
