The Kaduna State Government has intensified efforts to combat malnutrition, with the Wife of the Governor, Hajiya Hafsat Uba Sani, and spouses of the 23 Local Government Chairmen leading a grassroots nutrition drive.

Speaking at a strategic meeting convened by the Planning and Budget Commission (PBC), Wife of the Kaduna State Governor, Hajiya Hafsat Uba Sani said, stressed that the fight against malnutrition must begin at the community level.

“Malnutrition is not just a health issue; it is a development challenge that affects the future of our children and our state,” she said. “As mothers and community leaders, we must take ownership of nutrition awareness and ensure that no child is left behind.”

The Honourable Commissioner of the Planning and Budget Commission said the involvement of LGA chairmen’s spouses was deliberate, noting that they are well positioned to influence households and drive behaviour change.

“You are closest to the people at the grassroots, and your role as nutrition ambassadors is critical to translating our policies into real impact,” the commissioner said.

Goodwill messages from the Head of Service and Commissioners for Health and Youth Development reaffirmed the state’s commitment to accountability in nutrition programmes.

The Health Commissioner noted that “the effective distribution of Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) is vital to saving vulnerable children.”

The meeting ended with the distribution of RUTF to the three senatorial zones, marking the start of intensified grassroots action against malnutrition across Kaduna State.
