Militants from the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), a breakaway faction of Boko Haram aligned with the Islamic State, have carried out a deadly overnight assault on Buni Yadi, Yobe State, killing three soldiers.

Local sources told SaharaReporters that the attackers also stole large quantities of food and livestock during the raid.

Buni Yadi, situated in Gujba Local Government Area, about 54 kilometres from the state capital Damaturu, was previously under Boko Haram control for two years and remains one of the areas hardest hit by insurgent violence.

Describing the attack, a resident said:
“My home town came under attack overnight by Boko Haram terrorists. Three soldiers were killed, and foodstuffs and livestock were carted away.”

“However, the army collected three cars from the terrorists. The attack started around 11 pm on Sunday till 4 am this morning (Monday).”

The North-East region of Nigeria has faced nearly two decades of insurgency, with Yobe, Borno, and Adamawa states bearing the brunt of Boko Haram and ISWAP’s brutal campaigns.

The violence has claimed thousands of lives and displaced millions.
