Women police officers in Borno State have held activities marking the 70th anniversary of women in policing with a six-kilometer walkathon in Maiduguri.
The event comes at a time when cases of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence and domestic abuse continue to affect women and children across communities in the state.
The walkathon, on Tuesday brought together all women officers serving in the Command to promote unity, fitness, and a shared commitment to ending violence against women and children.
The officers marched through designated routes in Maiduguri, where they engaged residents and raised awareness on SGBV, domestic violence, and gender inclusion in policing.
The exercise was led by CSP Aitiya Joseph Gaya, 2IC Area Commander Metro, who guided the team throughout the advocacy walk.
The initiative forms part of activities celebrating “70 Years of Courage and Service: Honoring Women in Policing (1955–2025).”
Commissioner of Police Naziru Abdulmajid praised the female officers for their dedication, courage, and professionalism.
He said the walkathon symbolizes both physical strength and the Command’s commitment to supporting survivors of violence and strengthening public trust in the police.
The Command reaffirmed its readiness to continue partnering with communities to combat gender-based violence across the state.
