The European-American University has announced an offer of genuine honorary degrees to Dauda Kahutu Rarara and others who were recently victims of a fraudulent award ceremony in Abuja.
In its latest official statement, the University clarified that Rarara and others were presented with fake honorary degrees by fraudsters who falsely claimed to represent the institution. The University added that it has lodged a report with the Nigerian Police for investigation and action.
“The University recognizes that Dauda Kahutu Rarara and others who received these fake honorary degrees are most likely innocent victims of the fraudsters and had acted in good faith in their participation in this event,” the statement read.
As a gesture of goodwill, the institution has invited Rarara and the others named — Alhaji Ahmed Saleh Jnr., Mustapha Abdullahi Bujawa, and Tarela Boroh — to contact it directly.
“Subject to their consent, the University will then examine their credentials via its Honorary Degrees Committee, and if these are found acceptable, they will then be able to receive a genuine honorary degree from European-American University,” the statement added.
The University also stressed that no payment would be required at any stage of the process.
“In view of the reported actions of the fraudsters, it should be stated for clarity that no fee whatsoever will be required by the University in this process,” the institution clarified.
