The Centre for Legal Orientation and Humanitarian Aid Initiative (CELOHA Nigeria) and the West Africa Network for the Protection of Children and Young Migrants (WAN Network) have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening efforts against human trafficking and enhancing protection for children and young migrants across Nigeria and West Africa.
This commitment was expressed during a courtesy and advocacy visit to the Kano Zonal Commander of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) in Kano.
During the visit, both organizations presented a proposal for strategic collaboration aimed at strengthening anti-trafficking interventions, child protection systems, migration governance, and data-driven responses to trafficking and irregular migration.
The proposed partnership seeks to enhance cooperation between NAPTIP, civil society organizations, development partners, and relevant stakeholders through:
- Prevention of human trafficking and exploitation.
- Protection and support services for vulnerable children and young migrants.
- Community awareness and safe migration campaigns.
- Improved data collection, analysis, and information sharing.
- Strengthened referral mechanisms and survivor-centered responses.
- Joint advocacy, research, and capacity-building initiatives.
CELOHA Nigeria and WAN Network also emphasized the importance of collaboration with the Kano State Human Trafficking Task Force and international partners, including the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Nigeria and the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD), to advance sustainable and evidence-based solutions.
Speaking after the meeting, the National Coordinator of WAN Network and Chief Operations Officer of CELOHA Nigeria commended NAPTIP’s efforts in combating trafficking in persons and expressed their readiness to support ongoing initiatives through community engagement, research, child protection interventions, and cross-border cooperation.
The organizations reiterated that protecting children and young migrants requires a coordinated approach involving government agencies, civil society organizations, traditional and religious leaders, development partners, and local communities.
