The Borno State Police Command has recovered a cache of drugs and weapons during a series of coordinated raids that led to the arrest of 20 suspects in Maiduguri.

The operation was carried out on Saturday by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) and the Anti-Social Vices Unit under the directive of Commissioner of Police Naziru Abdulmajid.

In a statement by the command’s spokesman ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, said officers stormed several locations identified as criminal hideouts across the city.

He said the raid targeted “communities that residents often describe as hotspots,” including Kasuwan Fara, Baga Road, Bolori Kofa Biyu, Shehuri North, State Low-Cost, Bulabulin, Pompomari Bypass, and Albaganaram.

He said the officers recovered items linked to drug abuse and criminal activities during the operation.

The recovered items include “three knives, 128 wraps of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, four cups of dried leaves suspected to be Laud, one ice bunker, and 12 wraps of cough syrup.”

Daso said the suspects were arrested for offences that include possession of dangerous weapons, use of illicit substances, public nuisance, and vagrancy.

“All suspects and exhibits are currently in custody undergoing preliminary investigation before prosecution,” he said.

He added that Commissioner Abdulmajid remains committed to removing criminal elements from the state and improving public safety.

“The Command will continue to take decisive action against anyone undermining peace in Borno State,” Daso said.

He urged residents to support security agencies by reporting suspicious activities in their communities.
