A high-powered delegation from the Borno State Government has visited Banki town in Bama Local Government Area following a deadly Boko Haram attack that killed residents, displaced families, and destroyed property.
The visit aimed to console the affected community, assess the scale of destruction, engage security stakeholders, and reaffirm the government’s commitment to peace, security, and reconstruction.
The delegation was led on Tuesday by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, Professor Usman Tar.
During the visit, the delegation met with residents, inspected the damaged sites, and conveyed Governor Babagana Umara Zulum’s condolences and solidarity.
They assured the community of “immediate interventions to ease their hardship” and “rebuild confidence in their resilience.”
A strategic meeting was also held with local security volunteers, including members of the Civilian JTF, hunters, vigilantes, and Kesh-Kesh.
Professor Tar praised their courage and sacrifice in defending the town and assured them of “continued government support.”
Engr. Wakilbe commended their bravery and dedication, stressing that “their sacrifices would never be forgotten” in the effort to restore peace across Borno State.
The state government also provided financial support to the security groups as a mark of appreciation.
The delegation continued its mission in Mora, Cameroon, where it visited victims receiving medical treatment, offered financial assistance, and joined the community in holding the third-day prayers for those who lost their lives.
They also paid a courtesy visit to Brigadier General P.A. Ayoola, Commander of the Brigade in charge of the area, to discuss “enhanced military–civilian collaboration.”
The visit concluded at the palace of the Shehu of Bama, where the team briefed the royal father on their mission and sought his blessings.
The visit reaffirmed the Borno State Government’s commitment to “standing with affected communities,” “supporting local security initiatives,” “providing humanitarian relief,” and “accelerating reconstruction and resettlement efforts.”
It also highlighted the government’s determination to “strengthen community resilience,” “deepen collaboration with security agencies,” and “restore confidence” among displaced persons returning to their ancestral homes.
