Bandits suspected to be from the Lakurawa group launched an attack on Alela village in Sokoto State, burning homes and stealing livestock. The attack, which occurred on May 23, 2025, left residents in shock and forced many to flee their homes.
The assailants, numbering in hundreds and riding on motorcycles, stormed the village in a coordinated assault, firing shots and setting homes ablaze. Security operatives have been deployed to the area to track down the attackers.
This incident highlights the growing insecurity in the region, with bandits and armed groups terrorizing communities. The attack has left the community reeling, with many demanding government intervention to prevent further attacks and address the root causes of insecurity.
Apart from Ilela’s saga, Nigerians are calling for increased security presence and action to address poverty and lack of opportunities that drive young people to join these groups.
