The Kano State Government has reiterated its commitment to providing affordable, decent, and globally compliant housing to address the state’s housing deficit and reduce the proliferation of slums.
This assurance was given by the Commissioner for Housing Development, Arc. Ibrahim Yakubu Adamu, at the opening ceremony of a two-day management retreat held at the NBTE Conference Hall, Unguwar Rimi GRA, Kaduna.
Arc. Adamu stated that all future residential layouts in Kano will now be designed with essential infrastructure that meets global standards.
He noted that such facilities have already been provided in the newly developed Kwankwasiyya, Amana, and Bandirawo Cities.
Kano promises affordable housing
In a statement by Adamu Abdullahi, the Director, Public Enlightenment, Ministry of Housing Development, Kano, the Commissioner emphasized that the Ministry has been directed to leverage public-private partnerships (PPP) by collaborating with private developers to enhance housing delivery across the state.
The Commissioner stressed that housing policies under the ministry are aligned with both national and state goals—aiming to ensure that homes are affordable, available, decent, and accessible to the people of Kano.
Speaking on the retreat’s theme, “Building High Performance Organisation for Accelerated Housing Development in Kano State,” Arc. Adamu highlighted Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s commitment to establishing an efficient housing system to improve urban living.
Addressing slums and urban overcrowding
Arc. Adamu reaffirmed the administration’s determination to confront the dual challenges of urban overcrowding and slum expansion in metropolitan Kano, which are driven by rapid population growth.
He encouraged all retreat participants to fully engage with the programme and build their capacity to face the challenges in the housing sector more effectively.
