Zamfara State Government has reiterated its commitment to addressing the plight of civil servants affected by the recent verification exercise.
State Head of Service, Malam Yakubu Sani Haidara, mni, gave the assurance on Monday, August 4, 2025, during a meeting with stakeholders and the affected workers, led by the state labour union chairman, Sani Halliru Magajin Rafin Kurya.
Haidara commended the patience of the over 800 affected workers, urging them to exercise a little more endurance as the government works to rectify the situation. He noted that similar cases involving staff of the College of Nursing and Midwifery and some lecturers in state tertiary institutions had been resolved, with all outstanding salaries and arrears cleared.
He highlighted Governor Dauda Lawal’s efforts to improve the welfare of civil servants, including the implementation of the new minimum wage of ₦30,000 and ₦70,000, the provision of special allowances to permanent secretaries and heads of parastatals, and the allocation of new official vehicles to 25 permanent secretaries — a gesture not seen since the administration of former Governor Mahmuda Aliyu Shinkafi.
While cautioning the workers against taking the law into their own hands, Haidara assured them that all successfully reverified staff would be reinstated and paid.
Earlier, the leader of the affected workers, Nafi’u Bello Bature, through his secretary, Hassan Lawali, lamented that many had gone over six months without salaries despite being cleared in a second verification exercise.
It will be recalled that the affected workers recently staged a protest at the state Ministry of Finance, locking the entrance in protest over their unpaid wages and calling for urgent government intervention.
The meeting was attended by permanent secretaries from the ministries of finance, information, justice, and establishment, alongside the leadership of organised labour unions.
