President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has revealed that the University of Maiduguri, Borno State, will now bear the name of Nigeria’s former President Muhammadu Buhari.
The announcement was made on Thursday, July 17, during an expanded Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The meeting formed part of a series of national events to honour the legacy of the late former leader.
Although full details regarding the implementation of the renaming are yet to be disclosed, President Tinubu’s statement signals a major step in immortalizing Buhari’s contributions to the country, particularly in the areas of security and education in the Northeast.
The University of Maiduguri will now be known as Muhammadu Buhari University after President Tinubu’s announcement.
The move is expected to draw both national and regional attention, given Buhari’s close ties to Borno State and his administration’s focus on restoring peace to the region during his time in office.
More details are expected to be released by the Ministry of Education and relevant authorities in the coming days.
