Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf is set to formally rejoin the All Progressives Congress on Monday, January 26, days after resigning from the New Nigeria Peoples Party.

The development was announced in a press statement issued on Sunday by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.

According to the statement, the governor will officially register as an APC member in Kano State.

He is expected to return to the party alongside 22 members of the Kano State House of Assembly.

Eight members of the House of Representatives are also billed to defect with him.

In addition, all 44 local government chairmen in the state are expected to join the move.

The statement said Governor Yusuf will also formally launch the APC e-registration exercise in Kano on Monday.

Recalling his political history, the statement noted that Yusuf first joined the APC in 2014.

He won the party’s primary election for the Kano Central Senatorial seat that year.

The ticket was later conceded to Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso following internal party arrangements.

After years of political engagement across different political platforms, including the NNPP, the statement said prevailing governance realities informed his decision to return to the APC.

The governor reportedly described the APC as a familiar and structured platform for progressive governance.

According to the statement, rejoining the ruling party will strengthen collaboration between Kano State and the Federal Government.

It said the move is expected to accelerate infrastructural development across the state.

The governor also believes it will enhance security coordination and improve service delivery.

He added that the decision would help consolidate political stability and unity in Kano State.

The development comes amid widening political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Political observers say the mass defection represents one of the most significant shifts in Kano politics in recent years.

As of press time, the national leadership of the APC and the NNPP had yet to issue official reactions.
