Yobe State government has recruited 948 primary school teachers as part of efforts to strengthen basic education across the state.
The development was contained in a statement signed by Mamman Mohammed, director general, press and media affairs to the governor, on Sunday.
According to the statement, the executive chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Alh. Umaru Hassan Babayo, announced this after a meeting with Gov. Mai Mala Buni in Damaturu.
Babayo said the recruitment was aimed at filling existing manpower gaps in public primary schools.
“Most of those recruited were volunteer teachers who had been teaching without formal engagement by the state government,” he said.
He explained that the board has started organizing workshops for the new recruits to enhance their teaching skills and improve classroom performance.
The chairman urged the new teachers to justify the government’s trust in them and assured that SUBEB would intensify monitoring to ensure effective service delivery.
“We will continue to inspect schools regularly to ensure productivity and to make sure government gets value for its investment in education,” Babayo stated.
Gov. Buni, while commending the recruitment process, directed that only qualified candidates should be engaged to ensure quality teaching.
“The board should ensure training of the new teachers to have the best out of them,” the governor said.
“Government will continue to support the board to promote efficiency and productivity for the state to achieve its goal of taking education to greater heights,” Gov. Buni added.
