President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the constitution of new boards for the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and the Universal Service Provision Fund (USPF).

Both agencies operate under the supervision of the Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy.

Idris Olorunnimbe has been named Chairman of the NCC, while Dr. Aminu Maida will continue to serve as Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.

Maida was first appointed in October 2023 and confirmed by the Senate a month later.

Olorunnimbe previously served on the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF) Board, where he chaired the Stakeholder and Governance Committee and championed youth employment and entrepreneurship programmes.

Other NCC board members include Abraham Oshidami (Executive Commissioner, Technical Services), Rimini Makama (Executive Commissioner, Stakeholder Management), Hajia Maryam Bayi (former Director, Human Capital & Administration), Col. Abdulwahab Lawal (Rtd), Senator Lekan Mustafa, Chris Okorie, Princess Oforitsenere Emiko, and the Board Secretary.

Tinubu appoints new USPF members

For the USPF board, President Tinubu appointed Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, as Chairman.

Olorunnimbe will serve as Vice Chairman, alongside members Abraham Oshidami, Rimini Makama, Aliyu Edogi Aliyu (representing FMCIDE), Joseph B. Faluyi (Federal Ministry of Finance), Auwal Mohammed (FMBNP), Uzoma Dozie, Peter Bankole, Abayomi Anthony Okanlawon, Gafar Oluwasegun Quadri, and the USPF Secretary.

The USPF was established to promote universal access to ICT in rural, unserved, and underserved communities across Nigeria.

It plays a critical role in bridging the digital divide, ensuring that technological development reaches every part of the country.
