President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has honoured Nigeria’s Super Falcons with national awards, cash gifts, and housing allocations following their historic victory at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
The team clinched the country’s 10th WAFCON title, reaffirming their status as the most successful women’s national football team in Africa.
Speaking at a reception held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Tinubu conferred the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) on all 24 players and 11 technical team members.
N100m in bonuses, three-bedroom homes awarded
The President also announced that each player would receive the naira equivalent of $100,000, while each technical team member would receive $50,000.
In addition, all awardees will be allocated a three-bedroom apartment in recognition of their achievement.
“I have received this trophy on behalf of all Nigerians,” President Tinubu said. “I say to you: thank you for the dedication, passion, and for reminding us of the strength of the Nigerian spirit.”
“On behalf of a grateful nation, I hereby confer on the players and the 11-man technical team the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON),” he added.
The celebration did not stop at the federal level.
The Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State, announced an additional ₦10m for each of the 24 players and technical crew members, donated on behalf of the forum.
