President Bola Tinubu has pledged stronger security assistance for Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal, promising increased troop deployment and expanded operational backing during a meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, where both leaders examined the state’s security situation and related economic issues.
According to a statement released by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, on Thursday, the discussion centred mainly on strategies to reestablish stability in Zamfara, with the President reiterating the Federal Government’s resolve to intensify troop deployment and provide additional operational assistance.
The statement read, “Governor Lawal held a closed-door meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu… The focus of the meeting is the security situation in Zamfara, particularly highlighting the successes achieved so far and identifying areas that require improvement to facilitate the return of peace across the state.”
It added that Tinubu “stressed his commitment to providing full support to the Zamfara State Government, including deploying more troops and the essential equipment to guarantee smooth operations.”
The statement further indicated that the governor updated the President on economic progress in the state, particularly improvements in internally generated revenue, while also requesting further federal intervention to boost local industries.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu reaffirmed his commitment to ongoing support, which encompasses exploring federal resources and programmes that could be utilised to enhance local industries and generate job opportunities in Zamfara,” it added.
The meeting followed an earlier session between the President and governors elected under the platform of the All Progressives Congress at the Presidential Villa.
Governors who attended the APC meeting included those from Borno, Imo, Gombe, Benue, Ekiti, Enugu and Kwara states, while several others were represented by their deputy governors.
