Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State has introduced Engr. Mustafa Gubio, his chosen successor, to Vice-President Kashim Shettima as the All Progressives Congress (APC) consensus flagbearer for the 2027 governorship race.
Addressing journalists at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Thursday, Governor Zulum stated that the candidate’s emergence followed wide-ranging consultations with party stakeholders.
Zulum explained that the development represents a collective agreement among party members across the state.
He praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he termed “strategic leadership, support and guidance” to both the administration and the APC.
“I wish to express my profound gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the leadership he is providing in the country and for the enormous support to Borno State as well as the APC, which has been unprecedented,” the governor said.
“ I would also like to commend the President, who has been instrumental in the emergence of Gubio as the consensus candidate,” he said.
Zulum further recognised the Vice President’s role in fostering unity within the party in the state and backing the consensus arrangement.
He also thanked the APC leadership at various levels, stakeholders, and the people of the state for their loyalty, prayers, and continued support, which he noted made Gubio’s emergence possible.
The governor had previously announced Engr. Gubio as his anointed successor.
