Security forces confirmed the death of bandit leader Kallamu Buzu, a relative of Sa’idu Buzu and a close associate of Bello Turji, along with ten other bandits during an operation with vigilante support.
Kallamu Buzu, infamous for raids and cattle theft across eastern Sabon Birni up to the Niger border, had long terrorized local communities.
Early on Sunday, he and his heavily armed gang entered the towns of Fadamun Tara and Kurawa, accompanied by his deputy, Dan Jargaba.
Through coordinated efforts and actionable intelligence, security forces intercepted the gang between Kurawa and Tara, successfully neutralizing Kallamu Buzu, his deputy Dan Jargaba, and eight other bandits.
Years of terror ended
This success comes after nearly three years of Kallamu Buzu’s criminal activities in Sabon Birni and Isa, which included violent attacks, kidnappings, and repeated raids in towns like Sardauna, Dan Gari, Gatawa, Dunkawa, Takalmawa, Zago, Tara, Hillo, Kitamau, Kurawa, Taka Tsaba, Kibar Ruwa, Abara, and even the center of Sabon Birni town itself.
Basharu Altine Guyawa Isa, Commander of Sokoto State Vigilante Corps and security coordinator for Northern Nigeria, stated that intelligence provided by locals played a crucial role in achieving this major victory.
He also called on Sokoto State Governor Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto and security adviser Col. Ahmed Usman (rtd) to continue strengthening security forces to achieve further successes.
Vigilante commander praises joint efforts
The commander commended state and federal security agencies and local vigilantes for their cooperation and determination in carrying out the operation.
He urged continued collaboration to end banditry in the region once and for all.
