Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North, says lasting peace will not come to the South-East until the federal government deals with the region’s long history of neglect and unfair treatment.

Speaking on Sunday Politics on Channels Television, he said the main cause of the region’s crisis is the “perceived injustice by successive governments.”

Nwoko believes two key steps can help restore peace — creating Anioma state to make the South-East have six states like other regions, and freeing Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Nwoko calls for Kanu’s release and support for Anioma state

Nwoko said Nnamdi Kanu’s continued detention by the Department of State Services (DSS) is unjust and a major reason for the region’s instability.

He suggested a political solution to ease tensions and promote dialogue.

The senator also said the campaign to create Anioma state is making progress, noting that the National Assembly’s constitutional review committee supports adding a new state to the South-East.

He expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu would approve Anioma state if recommended, calling it “the best gift” to the Igbo people.
