The Nigeria Police Force has ordered the immediate withdrawal of all Special Protection Unit (SPU) personnel attached to VIPs across the country.
The directive, issued on Monday at SPU Base 16 in Lagos, followed an instruction from the president and commander-in-chief ordering the removal of police officers assigned to VIP security duties.
The order was contained in a daily instruction signed by ASP Neji Veronica, the admin officer acting on behalf of the commanding officer of SPU Base 16.
The document stated that all personnel attached to VIPs and beats in different parts of the federation must return to the base before the end of Monday, November 24, 2025.
The order warned that all affected officers are expected to attend a lecture parade the following day, with attendance taken from the nominal roll.
“This is for your information and strict compliance,” the directive read.
Police authorities have not issued further clarification on how the withdrawal will affect existing security arrangements for high-profile individuals.
