The House of Representatives is holding a special sitting to deliberate on Nigeria’s escalating security challenges, following a surge in banditry incidents and abductions across the country.
Speaker Abbas Tajudeen encouraged Nigerians to watch their statements about the nation, emphasising that safeguarding the country is a collective duty.
The Deputy Speaker added that even though Nigeria has firm deterrent laws, issues remain due to weak enforcement and insufficient funding for security operations.
Several lawmakers pushed for state or community policing, the provision of perimeter fencing for all primary and secondary schools, and urged citizens to refrain from actions that promote division.
