Police authorities in Anambra State have taken into custody a landlord, Ogochukwu Ugoeze, over the alleged brutal killing of a nursing student, Miss Chiamaka Vivian Chilaka.

The victim was a highly decorated final-year National Diploma (ND II) student of the College of Nursing Sciences, Alor, located in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The tragic incident reportedly happened at the student’s residence on Sunday, June 14, 2026.

According to media reports, a viral video clip showed a priest, visibly distraught, directing a companion to take photographs of Miss Chilaka’s room, where a stick was reportedly found.

The recording also displayed her lifeless body outside the room, with cuts on her thighs and other noticeable injuries.

Further footage showed bloodstains around the premises, broken household property and personal items strewn across the compound, indicating that a struggle may have occurred between the deceased and her attacker before she was killed.

The priest was heard lamenting: “My daughter, my daughter! This is the dead body of my daughter. This is what they did to my daughter.”

Residents of the area reportedly accused Ugoeze, the landlord, alleging that he had repeatedly made sexual advances toward the student, which she allegedly turned down.

The remains of the deceased have been deposited at a mortuary pending preservation and autopsy procedures.

Sources revealed that the landlord initially informed police that unidentified persons entered his compound, attacked the student and fled after leaving her dead. However, community members reportedly challenged the narrative, arguing that a dog within the compound usually barked whenever unfamiliar persons gained entry.

Police later arrested the landlord as the prime suspect while investigations into the matter progressed.

The Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, directed that the matter be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Awka, and instructed detectives to fast-track inquiries into the suspected murder of the 23-year-old nursing student, an orphan from Isinwa in Ngor Okpala Local Government Area of Imo State.

In a statement, the Anambra State Police Command confirmed that the landlord remains in custody and is being interrogated.

Meanwhile, the Adamawa State Police Command has apprehended a suspect over the alleged kidnapping of three children in Yola North Local Government Area of the state.

The command’s spokesperson, Suleiman Nguroje, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, noting that the children’s father, Samaila Musa, reported their disappearance after they were allegedly abducted and taken to an undisclosed location.

According to the statement, Musa, a resident of Hullere Gwalamba in Yola North Local Government Area, lodged the complaint with the State Intelligence Department on June 16, 2026.

He informed the police that on June 12, 2026, three boys — Adamu Samaila Sultan, 24, Bilal Abdurrahman, 8, and Ya’u Sani Baba Iyali, 10 — were abducted and taken away by unknown persons.

“The complainant further reported that the kidnappers later established contact with the family and demanded ransom as a condition for the release of the victims,” Nguroje stated.

Following the complaint, the Commissioner of Police, Kabir Hassan, ordered operatives of the command to commence a comprehensive investigation and deploy intelligence and technical resources to identify those behind the crime.

Nguroje stated that the suspect is presently in protective custody and has been providing valuable information to support efforts aimed at arresting other members of the alleged kidnapping syndicate operating within the state.

He added that investigations are still ongoing and that the suspect would be arraigned in court upon completion of the inquiry.
