The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano State Command, has intercepted a large consignment of illicit substances concealed in a trailer traveling through the state.

According to the agency, operatives recovered 8,000 bottles of Akuskura, a herbal mixture suspected to contain dangerous drugs, along with 48 blocks of Cannabis sativa.

A statement signed by NDLEA’s Kano strategic command spokesman, Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari, a 37-year-old suspect identified as Ali Muhammad was arrested in connection with the seizure.

The operation took place along Gadar Tamburawa, on the Zaria–Kano road, where the NDLEA stopped a trailer transporting goods from Lagos on its way to Maiduguri.

Drugs hidden under tricycles

The trailer was loaded with tricycles (popularly known as Keke Napep), but NDLEA officers discovered that the illicit items had been concealed between the tricycle units and beneath the trailer floor.

A wooden cover had been specially constructed to hide the drugs, according to the agency.

The NDLEA said the discovery was possible due to the diligence and commitment of its operatives, who thoroughly inspected the vehicle.

Both the suspect and the exhibits are currently in NDLEA custody.

Investigators will conduct laboratory analysis to determine the exact composition of the Akuskura bottles and establish the full scope of the smuggling attempt.

Agency commends support, urges vigilance

Commander of the Kano State Strategic Command, ACGN AI Ahmad, expressed appreciation for the support of NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd), noting that it has strengthened frontline operations across the country.

He urged members of the public to remain alert and report suspicious movements or consignments to NDLEA offices or other security agencies.

The command stressed that community vigilance remains a vital tool in curbing the spread of illicit drugs in Nigeria.
