The Kano State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 25-year-old man, Mansur Umar, for allegedly killing his sister’s boyfriend, Sulaiman Musa, after a violent altercation in Kunya Village, Minjibir Local Government Area.
Incident occurred during late-night visit
According to a statement released on Monday, May 12, by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the incident happened around 9:30 p.m. on Friday, May 9, 2025.
The victim, Sulaiman Musa, a resident of Goda Village, had visited his girlfriend, Fiddausi Umar, at her home in Kunya when the situation escalated.
Victim died from head injury
The police explained that a confrontation broke out during the visit, during which Mansur Umar allegedly struck Musa on the head with a stick, causing a severe injury.
Musa was first rushed to Kunya Cottage Hospital before being referred to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 12:50 a.m. the following day.
Suspect under police investigation
The suspect is currently in custody and undergoing investigation at the Homicide Section of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the command.
Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, called on residents to avoid taking the law into their own hands.
He emphasized the importance of peaceful coexistence and urged the public to report conflicts to the nearest police station for proper intervention.
The police also appealed to the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to support ongoing efforts in maintaining law and order across Kano State.
