Police in Kwara have detained an alleged arms transporter and seized a cache of live ammunition.
Just a day after a medical doctor was taken into custody by the Department of State Services for allegedly moving medical supplies from Sokoto State to kidnapping groups operating in Kwara State, officers have now intercepted another suspect along the Gbugbu/Patigi route in the state.
A patrol unit under the Lafiaji Area Command in Edu Local Government Area arrested the suspected courier in the early hours of Friday and recovered 100 rounds of AK47 live ammunition.
Around 07:30 hrs on Friday, during a routine stop-and-search along Gbugbu/Patigi road, the Police flagged down a Toyota Corolla with registration number EP 434 ABC. Inside, officers found 100 rounds of AK-47 ammunition hidden among personal belongings, along with assorted charms.
The car, driven by Owolaramfe Rafiu, also carried four additional passengers: Musa Mohammed, Adam Alhaji Lawal, and Musa Shaibu, all of whom were detained.
A coordinated investigation is currently in progress to track down the intended recipient of the ammunition. The suspects remain in Police custody.
