Three senators representing Kebbi State under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have resolved to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The development was confirmed by APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

Ganduje disclosed this while addressing journalists shortly after the senators met with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Official confirmation from APC chairman

According to Ganduje, the senators officially informed the president of their decision to leave the PDP and return to the APC.

Defection to be announced on Senate floor
He added that the lawmakers would formally announce their defection on the floor of the Senate next week, in line with the Nigerian Constitution.

The senators making the switch are Adamu Aliero, Yahaya Abubakar Abdullahi, and Garba Maidoki.

Rising wave of defections

The planned defection comes amid a renewed wave of high-level political cross-carpeting in Nigeria, particularly from opposition parties to the ruling APC.

Okowa’s defection adds to momentum
Just recently, Delta State Governor and former PDP vice-presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Ifeanyi Okowa, also announced his defection to the APC.
