The Kano State Police Command has obtained more than 2,000 names of suspected drug dealers through open-source intelligence as part of renewed efforts to tackle criminal activities across the state.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, revealed this on Tuesday while addressing journalists at the command headquarters in Bompai, Kano.
He explained that the names are currently undergoing verification before appropriate action is taken, stressing that the development reflects the command’s determination to rely on intelligence gathering and community cooperation in preventing crime.
Bakori further disclosed that the state recorded a noticeable decline in criminal incidents during the first quarter of 2026, which he credited to ongoing reforms and targeted policing strategies.
He said the command had been reorganised to strengthen operational performance and improve service delivery, allowing officers to respond more swiftly to emerging security challenges.
He added that the 2026 policing roadmap, which focuses on community policing, intelligence-led operations, capacity building, and inter-agency collaboration, had yielded “tremendous results.”
He noted that the establishment of a cybercrime unit and sustained public awareness campaigns had further strengthened crime prevention efforts.
The police chief said the implementation of “Operation Kukan Kura” had helped contain thuggery, commonly referred to as Fadan Daba, and reduced violent activities in the state.
He added that the command, in collaboration with the state government and other security agencies, had prevented bandit infiltration and resolved farmers-herders clashes through community engagement.
Bakori listed other achievements to include the arrest and prosecution of suspects involved in armed robbery, kidnapping, drug trafficking and cybercrime, as well as the recovery of stolen property.
He urged residents to support security agencies by providing credible information.
Bakori also commended the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, and the Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, for their continued support and cooperation.
