The Kano State Police Command has arrested 15 suspects—including a notorious robbery kingpin—in coordinated raids across Sheka, Ja’oji, and Kurna Quarters.
The arrests, which took place on July 26, 2025, were part of Operation Kukan Kura, a special initiative launched to rid the state of violent crimes and street thuggery.
According to the police, the suspects—aged between 14 and 28—were found in possession of four stolen mobile phones, which they had robbed from unsuspecting victims.
Notorious robber Mu’azu Barga finally in custody
Among those arrested is Mu’azu Barga, a well-known name within Kano’s criminal underworld.
Described by police as a “notorious serial armed robber,” Barga is reportedly linked to multiple violent robberies and gang-related attacks within the metropolis.
“He is responsible for leading a series of violent attacks and rivalry Daba fights within Kano,” the Command stated
He added that Barga’s arrest marks a significant victory for law enforcement.
All suspects, including Barga, will be charged to court upon completion of investigations.
Operation Kukan Kura: A proactive policing strategy
The ongoing Operation Kukan Kura reflects the renewed commitment of the Kano State Police Command to confront crime head-on.
The initiative was launched by the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, as part of broader efforts in line with Inspector-General of Police Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun’s directive to enhance community policing.
“This operation aims to detect and proactively nip in the bud any threat of criminal activity,” the Command explained in the press release.
CP Bakori: ‘Total war on thuggery’
Reaffirming his zero-tolerance stance, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori declared an all-out war on thuggery and street violence.
“The Command is committed to the sustenance of peace and security in the state,” he said.
CP Bakori assured the public that law enforcement would not relent until all corners of Kano are safe and free from criminal elements.

The Command extended its gratitude to the people of Kano for their support and vigilance.
It also encouraged continued cooperation from residents in the fight against crime.
