The Kano State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 30-year-old man, Mutawakilu Ibrahim, for allegedly killing his elderly grandparents during a violent confrontation at Kofar Dawanau Quarters.
Police said the incident occurred on Thursday morning, September 25, 2025, following a heated disagreement over food.
The victims, identified as 75-year-old Muhammad Dansokoto and 65-year-old Hadiza Tasidi, were stabbed with a knife and sustained fatal injuries.
“The victims were rushed to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, where doctors confirmed their deaths,” the police disclosed. Their remains were later released to relatives for burial according to Islamic rites.
Suspect believed to be intoxicated
According to the command, preliminary findings suggest that Ibrahim may have been under the influence of intoxicants at the time of the crime.
In a statement, the police noted that Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, has directed that the case be handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department’s Homicide Section for detailed investigation.
“The suspect is currently in custody and will be charged to court upon conclusion of the investigation,” the statement read.

The shocking incident has stirred outrage within the Kofar Dawanau community, where neighbors expressed disbelief at the brutal death of the elderly couple.
