The Centre for Legal orientation and Humanitarian Aid initiative (CELOHA NIGERIA) has condemned ongoing peace dialogues with armed bandit groups in Nigeria, particularly in Katsina and Zamfara States, as these efforts have continually failed to yield lasting results.
Despite numerous peace talks and agreements entered into by citizens concern groups and state authorities and bandit leaders, attacks have not ceased.
The group noted that instead, innocent women, children, and communities continue to bear the brunt of these violent acts.
It said the recent waves of killings, kidnappings, and destruction of livelihoods in Katsina and Zamfara clearly demonstrate that dialogue with these criminal elements has not only failed but has emboldened them.
Speaking on behalf of the organization, M. Saeed Kano, Founder of CELOHA NIGERIA, stated:
“We cannot continue to recycle failed strategies while the lives of our people are under constant threat. Dialogue has become a cover for bandits to regroup, rearm, and return with more violence. It is time for government at all levels to prioritize security, strengthen military operations, and ensures justice for the victims. Nigerians deserve peace, not endless negotiations with criminals.”
CELOHA NIGERIA called on the Federal Government, state authorities, security agencies, and stakeholders to adopt a more decisive and people centered approach to addressing banditry.
“We urge immediate action to protect women, children, and vulnerable communities who remain at the mercy of armed groups.”
