The Kano State Geographic Information System Agency (KANGIS) now generates over N750 million in monthly revenue, a significant increase from the previous N50 million.
Dr. Dalhatu Aliyu-Sani, the agency’s Director-General, announced this during the 2025 World Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Day held on Thursday in Kano.
The event, organized by eHealth Africa under the theme “GIS for Global Health Equity: Embracing the Geo-Generalist Era,” brought together innovators, health practitioners, researchers, and development partners.
Dr. Aliyu-Sani emphasized how Kano has strengthened its geospatial infrastructure with enhanced enterprise GIS and ICT systems.
The state is also rolling out Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) to support various sectors including security, agriculture, health, and urban planning.
Experts highlight GIS’s role in tackling health challenges
Deputy Director at eHealth Africa, Abdulhamid Yahaya, stressed the growing importance of GIS specialists in promoting global health equity.
Other speakers, including Oros-ghene Adia of CORE Group Partners and Dr. Esther Shupel-Ibrahim of NASRDA, noted GIS’s impact on disease eradication efforts and outbreak response.
They called for increased adoption of modern geospatial tools like AI and machine learning to address emerging challenges such as climate-related health threats.
The event featured presentations and exhibitions showcasing GIS innovations across multiple sectors.
