The Kaduna State Police Command has arrested 13 suspects in connection with the killing of a naval officer, Lt. Commodore M. Buba, who was murdered by a suspected phone thief in the early hours of Sunday.

According to the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Mansir Hassan, police operatives swiftly conducted a targeted raid in the Kawo area of Kaduna following the incident.

The operation led to the arrest of 13 individuals found in possession of dangerous weapons.

Lt. Commodore Buba, a senior course student at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji, met his death around 5:20 a.m. near the Kawo flyover.

Police reports revealed that he was driving from Jaji when his car developed a flat tyre.

While attempting to fix it by the roadside, an unknown assailant confronted him and demanded his mobile phone.

When the officer resisted and questioned the demand, the assailant reportedly stabbed him in the chest with a locally made knife.

Buba was rushed to Manaal Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. His remains were later moved to the 44 Army Reference Hospital in Kaduna.

Eyewitnesses at the scene said the assailant was quickly overpowered by onlookers and was also killed while trying to escape.

The police said investigations are ongoing to determine the connection between the arrested suspects and the murder.
