The Kaduna State House of Assembly have concluded the 2026 budget defence exercise for Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
Chairman, House Committee on Appropriation and Implementation, Shehu Yunusa-Pambeguwa, told journalists that all MDAs appeared before relevant committees to present projections and justify requests.
“The exercise allowed us to review 2025 budget performance from January to November, understand achievements, challenges and unmet targets,” he said.
Yunusa-Pambeguwa noted that the review helped lawmakers identify gaps affecting project implementation and make corrections to strengthen the 2026 budget.
He described the process as successful, saying MDAs fully defended their submissions, giving lawmakers clarity to prepare a realistic appropriation report.
According to him, the 2026 budget emphasises continuity and inclusivity, with focus on critical infrastructure such as roads, hospitals and schools in both urban and rural areas.
He urged MDAs to ensure efficient use of approved funds, prioritise staff training for digital governance, and prepare capital project documents early.
“Early implementation would help the state achieve 70 to 80 per cent budget performance by the third quarter,” he said.
