The Kulen Allah Cattle Rearers Association of Nigeria (KACRAN) has praised the North East Development Commission (NEDC), describing it as a blessing not only to the North East but also to Nigeria as a whole.
In a statement issued by Khalil Mohd Bello, National President of KACRAN and made available to Iconic Times24, the body said its conclusion followed “a thorough study and critical assessment” of the commission’s performance since inception.
According to the group, the NEDC has proved skeptics wrong by exceeding expectations in rehabilitating a region devastated by years of insurgency.
“Before the commission was created to rehabilitate and develop a region heavily devastated by insurgency, many believed a task of this magnitude was impossible,” the group said.
“But the NEDC has surpassed all expectations, and its excellent performance is a source of great surprise and excitement for us.”
Rebuilding lives and infrastructure
KACRAN noted that the NEDC has successfully rebuilt destroyed structures and gone further to construct thousands of new houses, hospitals, healthcare centers, and bridges across the North East.
The commission, it added, has also distributed thousands of utility vehicles to state governments and security agencies to enhance peace-keeping efforts.
“Today, it is difficult to find a major project in the region that does not have direct or indirect support from the NEDC,” the statement read.
According to KACRAN, the commission’s support has also freed up state governments to fund other development initiatives. The association described this approach as a model for sustainable regional recovery.
Humanitarian support and inclusiveness
Beyond physical infrastructure, the NEDC was credited with delivering large-scale humanitarian aid, including the distribution of hundreds of thousands of food items to internally displaced persons (IDPs) and residents during religious holidays.
KACRAN said the commission’s presence can be seen in everyday life, from branded mats in mosques to bedsheets in hospitals and homes.
It also commended the NEDC for training and employing thousands of forest guards to strengthen security and stability.
Crucially, the group applauded the commission for ensuring fairness in its programs, regardless of religion, tribe, or political affiliation. “This inclusiveness has allowed pastoralists to benefit directly from NEDC initiatives,” the statement noted.
KACRAN further highlighted that the commission’s achievements have inspired the creation of similar bodies in other parts of Nigeria.
The group commended the NEDC leadership, including Managing Director Alhaji Mohamed Goni Alkali and Director of Finance Dr. Garba Iliya, for their dedication to service.
“We call on the commission to continue its excellent work,” the statement said, adding a passionate appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to present a special award of excellence to the NEDC.
According to KACRAN, such recognition would “encourage other federal agencies to emulate its success” and justify increased budgetary allocation in 2026 to enable the NEDC to continue transforming the North East.
