Armed attackers have killed five persons and wounded two others following an assault on a hunters’ office in Gidan Waya community, Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The incident happened at about 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday when the assailants invaded the community, shooting sporadically and forcing residents to escape.
A local source revealed that four of those killed were members of the Hunters Association, while the fifth victim was a civilian.
In the aftermath of the attack, residents alongside the district head evacuated the casualties, while the injured victims were rushed to the Anglican Hospital in Gidan Waya.
Nigerian Forest Security Service (NFSS), Gidan Waya Command’s intelligence officer, Gaji Ampot, confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
Ampot stated that the attackers advanced on the office from two different directions and opened fire on personnel who were performing official duties.
“All but one of the victims were our men. The fifth person killed was a student who was in our office to resolve an issue,” he said.
Security personnel under Operation FANSAN YAMMA subsequently initiated a manhunt. Troops traced the suspects towards Jagindi Forest, recovering an AK-47 rifle, an AK-49 rifle, and a motorcycle after one suspect escaped.
